Service to humanity.
Soweto Ahlulbayt Jamaat is a formally registered Non-Profit Organization founded and operating in the township of Soweto, one of the most populous townships in Africa with a population of more or less 4 million people. Around 2002 – 2003, realizing the population dynamic and need for a home for the muslims who follow the Ahlulbayt (as) in Soweto, a group of brothers initiated a campaign to establish such a place.
There is a rich history behind how this small community began, with sacrifices and contributions from a variety of honourable people of all ages and gender. The story of Islam in Soweto is intertwined with the political history of South Africa, and is connected with the stories of those who fought against injustices around the continent and planet. This is partly why it is enshrined in our constitution to always stand with the oppressed.
